Terrestrial oil spills can impact the local ecosystems surrounding the spill sites including fauna, flora, and clean up efforts often times hinder the biodiversity.

Indigenous Nations

Often times, oil pipelines interact with indigenous tribal lines. Considering indigenous peoples rely on local natural resources, oil spills near waterbodies or food sources for indigenous peoples threatens their livelihood.  

Waterbodies

Oil spills that occur near/within waterbodies threaten the marine life and ecosystems, but they also pose the risk of infecting potential drinking water sources.

We leverage Google Earth Satellite Imagery...

Most oil spill monitoring resources require costly equipment or private surveillance imaging, but we are able to cut down on these costs through the use of publicly available satellite images from Google Earth.

...and various machine learning techniques...

We use publicly available machine learning techniques such as Random Forest Classifier, XGBoost, Support Vector Machine & Optimization techniques in order to enhance the monitoring of oil spills.

...to closely monitor terrestrial oil spills.

Ultimately, we provide a packaged result that bolsters monitoring potential oil spill sites within a satellite image.
